The City of Durham's Page about Parrish Street
This site contains a brief overview of the history of Black Wall Street, as well as information for those interested in the revitalization efforts.
The UNC Southern Oral History Project
This database of Oral History Interviews from all over the South contains many interviews that pertain to Black Wall Street, and to Durham's larger History. There are severa good interviews with Women connected to the Parrish Street Community, most notably Selena Warren Wheeler, Margaret Kennedy Goodwin, Constance Watts, and Josephine Clement. The interview I found most useful for understanding the culture of Parrish Street and its business was Walter Weare's 1979 interview with
Viola Turner the first female board member, and Vice-President Treasurer at The North Carolina Mutual Life Insurance Company. To listen to that interview, and read transcripts, click here
for part 1 and here for part 2.
The Center for Documentary Studies at Duke University
