Viola Turner's Story

(Women on Black Wall Street Exhibit Home)

Viola Turner began her career at the North Carolina Mutual Life Insurance Company in 1920 as a humble but smart and spunky secretary, and she eventually became the companies treasurer and main connention to the larger financial world, and the other Wall Street in New York. She was the first woman to be appointed to the Board of Directors in 1960, as the Vice-President Treasurer. She has quite a gift for storytelling too!
